The playing field isn't really generated with any "beat detection technology" at all. The game just seems to randomly spew out blobs based loosely on the BPM of the current track. The game's ugly as sin, the original soundtrack is awful and it's been bested by flash games on newgrounds from ten years ago.. HeXen 2 Improves on lots of different aspects of its predecessor and manages to be (IMO) much better than the original game, and while it does have other flaws HeXen 2 is a great game that you should try out. Just make sure to play with a walkthrough and the Hammer Of Thyrion sourceport for the best experience (or any source port of your choosing.). This game is cute.It's a puzzle game with very bright and pleasing graphics. Nothing too intense, but colorful and vibrant. Basically during each level, you find things to feed Maw. Different creatures provide different effects and you need to find your way out of the level.The controls were a little quirky when trying to jump, but all in a all a fun game worth the dollar or so I paid.. I bought this game years ago just as a time-filler. I completed it almost as soon as I bought it - so you can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it for its purpose!
